April 13th Update

Our 2021 return to the Woods of Northern Maine, how sweet it is! We are back in Camp and UNBELIEVABLE the Ice has began to go out. It will only be a day or two before its gone and we pick a WINNER for the Orvis Helios Rod!

Most of the snow is gone and river and stream waters are warming. We have already experienced the benefits of a mild winter in many ways with great numbers of Grouse and evening Woodcock activity along with our local deer and moose population wintering well. It’s been a busy commute over the last few days of moving in.

Traditionally the open water fishing conditions in the North Woods begin in early May, with the average ice-out around the 5th. It would be unusual to have open water in late April even in the mildest of years and we often have thoughts and wishes of an early ice-out only to have those dreams fade year after year. Following the challenging year of 2020 that wasn’t our friend we apparently will be breaking our all-time record of an early ice out.

Today, April 13th it has begun, and we expect the lake to be clear in the next couple of days.

With that in mind, if your fishing is always focused on catching you haven’t missed a thing, especially this early in the season. If this trend continues through the remainder of the month, we will be adjusting our opening dates accordingly and will be booking additional clients for fishing during and just following smelt run activity, just a tremendous time of the year fly fishing in the North Maine Woods!

The week of May 9th will be our tentative opening date, and this will fill up fast. Use the Contact Form ASAP if you are interested in any of the additional early opening dates by clicking HERE.

A follow up to our great clientele: 2021 has been a challenging year for you and us on many levels. We have tried to cautiously and with great consideration to fill our calendar with 2020 covid cancellations, returning clients and new clients that want to experience what we have to offer. Rest assured if you were unable to secure dates in 2021 we hope to see you as soon as possible and nobody’s deposits will be forfeited due to our availability. We are confident that you understand these circumstances have been as frustrating for us as they have been for you. Please be patient as we are as excited to get back on the water as any of you.

Great fishing and catching days are coming soon!
