In the course of driving thousands of miles of road systems during our summer fishing season we were pleased to see dozens of grouse along the way each day. The dry weather was favorable to young production and survival and our best day had us seeing over 150 chicks. Many of the groups of birds included 8 or more. Drumming numbers were up as well and in some areas we heard more than 5 birds per stop.
All in all it is looking like we will have a very good year again for Ruffed Grouse at Chandler Lake Camps and Lodge in the North Maine Woods. Last season treated us very well and we expect this year to be even better.
It is worth noting that the North Maine Woods is a place all its own. The grouse fair much differently here than in other parts of the state of Maine, particularly from the south central where many of the written and online forecasts originate from. To experience grouse hunting at its finest as you remembered it was or were told ‘what it used to be like’ just make your way here to Chandler Lakes Camps to experience it right here, right now!”
It was said many years ago by a good friend here in camp…. ‘When its bad its good. When its good its great and when its great its a LIE!
