North Maine Woods Grouse Hunting at Chandler Lake Camps

October brings the start of Grouse and Woodcock Hunting in the North Maine Woods.  A traditional Maine sporting camp located in the shadow of the Chandler Mountain range in T9 R8 of Aroostook County, Maine  Chandler Lake Camps and Lodge is a step back into the traditional Maine Sporting Camp of Ole while experiencing every modern convenience tucked away in our slice of North Maine Woods heaven.  Since 1902 Chandler Lake Camps has been situated on the eastern shore of beautiful Chandler Lake. The cabins are nestled among a rugged rocky shoreline in a forest of pine and spruce from a by-gone era. The only camps on the 418 acre lake, its like stepping back in time in the North Maine Woods.  At Chandler Lake Camps and Lodge you will experience the best Ruffed Grouse Hunting in the North Maine Woods or anywhere for that matter.  More covers than a man or dog could ever possibly hunt with explosive flushes of grouse in each.  Venture a mile from camp or 30.  Your grouse hunting adventures are limited only by your legs and your willingness to push forward into the home coverts of the King of all game birds.  These truly wild birds will challenge the best shooters in every way.

Grouse and Woodcock Hunting at Chandler Lake Camps and Lodge is truly among the finest found anywhere.  We are located in the middle of over 3.5 million acres of prime ruffed grouse and woodcock habitat in the working woodland of the North Maine Woods.  Known as the King of all game birds Ruffed Grouse hunting here permeates that. We have Professional Registered Maine Guides available with fine bird dogs that will ensure your North Maine Woods Grouse Hunting is memorable.  We focus on the quality of the hunt, fair chase and great dog work.  If you have your own dogs we encourage you to bring them for a North Maine Woods grouse hunt.  This is a prime area for bird contacts on wild grouse.  Sure to make a new puppy or seasoned old veteran excited and happy to start every day.

The Ruffed Grouse here admittedly do not behave like grouse in other parts of New England.  The birds in our area are known for how long they hold before flushing for a dog or walking grouse hunter. Dogs pointing the birds so close that they can hold for a photo op of the dog with the grouse in the photo are not uncommon.  This by no means translates to these being lesser quarry that Ruffed Grouse elsewhere.  These birds will hold very tight but notoriously also run from dog and hunter like a wild North Dakota Pheasant in the open prairie.

Chandler Lake Camps and Lodge sits in the heart of this Maine Grouse and Woodcock Hunting’s heaven of habitat. With hundreds of miles of gravel roads, alder runs and hardwood ridges allowing access to the best of Maine Grouse Hunting.  Opportunities abound for hunting over dogs and coverts are suitable for both pointing and flushing breeds. Spend a day or a week chasing the King of all game birds Grouse and Woodcock Hunting with us.

Combine a day of North Maine Woods Grouse Hunting, great dogs and the glory of a crisp fall day.  Hunting at Chandler Lake Camps and Lodge is an experience of a lifetime.
